Pre-Conference Activities
Back by popular demand, the Region V Board is proud to announce that we will again be offering facility tours to one of the VPP Sites listed below as a pre-conference activity available to our conference attendees. This gives conference attendees an opportunity to see first-hand the making of a VPP STAR Site in close proximity to the conference. If you would like to participate in this outreach activity,. please contact either site person by May 1, 2010:

Highlights from the 2009 VPPPA Region V Conference in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin State Capital in Madison and the Wisconsin Army National Guard Kick off the 2009 Region V Conference
Region V 2009 Conference is a Huge Success! Thank You!!!
On May 27-28 the Region V VPPPA board hosted their annual conference in Madison, WI. The Conference was a huge success and had lots of positive feedback. The conference was kicked off with the National Anthem and presentation of the colors by the U.S. Army. The opening session was led by Region V VPPPA Chairman Frank Avila and had several speakers from Region V OSHA: Sandy Taylor. Acting Administrator: Nancy Mugavero, VPP Manager and James Dillard, VPP Construction. The speakers provided updates on the future direction of VPP, status statistics on VPP sites (Region V has over 345 sites today.) Davis Layne VPPPA Executive Director presented on National VPPPA updates, conference and statistics .
Recognized at the conference were the following:
- Mike Bauer, GE - National VPPPA 2008 (Anaheim, CA) "Region V Achievement Award."
- Patti Phillips, GE - National VPPPA 2008 (Anaheim, CA) "Mentor of the Year Award."
- Tim Maley from Advanced Consulting & Ergonomics who retired from the Region V Board.
- Glenn Trout from MSDSonline was recognized for his outstanding service on the Region V Board.
- John Malaby from Plastic Suppliers won the Region V Banner Contest which will be unveiled at the 2009 VPP National conference.
Highlights include:
- Excellent attendance with 441 participants.
- Positive responses from attendees at offered workshops.
- A total of 38 (record breaking) EHS companies exhibited at the conference
- Great response and feedback on the raffle gifts including; safety equipment, ipods, digital cameras, digital photo-frames, a GE refrigerator, and much more!
- Great response and feedback on Opening Keynote Speakers from Laughing Stock Comedy Company and Closing Keynote Speaker Hap Pigsley.
- A sample survey of over 200 responses was completed on determining future conference locations.
- An Application Workshop was held on May 29th with 40 attendees.
The Region V Board was extremely pleased with quality of the conference.
Next year’s conference will be at the Sheraton Hotel in Bloomington, MN on June 2-3, 2010, in addition a Application Workshop will be offered on June 4, 2010. Please mark your calendars NOW!!!
